PAS assemblyperson Wan Rohimi Wan Daud boasted yesterday about evading police roadblocks set up to coincide with a motorcycle convoy in Kota Bharu organised by PAS Youth and the Kelantan government backbenchers’ club.
The police and Road Transport Department (RTD) roadblocks were amid the convoy’s original plans to ride to the Kota Bharu Airport, which police and Transport Minister Anthony Loke said was irresponsible, as it could disrupt traffic at a critical area.
However, reports indicated that the convoy ultimately just rode past near the airport.
In a speech at the end of the ride, Wan Rohimi appeared to express pride at outsmarting the authorities.
“We were delayed because there were police roadblocks. There were so many. I counted no less than seven (roadblocks). But all ‘kena bodo’ (were outsmarted) by us,” he said.
The Melor assemblyperson said the group had its own “special branch” to alert them of roadblocks, and that he led the motorcyclists through backroads instead.
He also claimed that about 3,000 motorcycles took part in the convoy.
Accusation of oppression
While Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat and Loke both announced security measures, Wan Rohimi claimed the roadblocks were a form of oppression ordered by the DAP minister.

“Our programme was successful, even though we are being pressured by a Madani minister.
“A DAP apek (older Chinese man) who threatened, ordered the RTD and police to set up roadblocks, causing trouble for our police,” he said.
Wan Rohimi added that he plans to organise other motorcycle convoys in the future.
The Kota Bharu ride came almost three weeks after Perikatan Nasional organised a similar convoy in Terengganu, involving the menteris besar of Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, and Perlis. - Mkini
