Up to PH leadership to decide on BN ties, says Aminuddin

PETALING JAYA:
The Pakatan Harapan presidential council will decide on its next course of action following Barisan Nasional’s move to unseat Aminuddin Harun as Negeri Sembilan menteri besar.

Aminuddin, a PKR vice-president, said this was not up to him and that his focus was on doing his best as he continues leading the state government for now.

“It’s up to the PH top leadership. I will leave it to the leadership to decide on the next step,” he said when asked if Negeri Sembilan BN’s move would hamper ties with PH at the federal level.

“At the state level, I will continue carrying out my responsibilities, ensuring we continue to draw investments and that we can govern well. I will work all the more harder now,” he said at a press conference in Seremban.

Earlier today, all 14 Negeri Sembilan Umno assemblymen announced that they had withdrawn support for Aminuddin as menteri besar.

Without the Umno seats, Aminuddin now leads a minority govt with 17 PH seats, two short of a majority.

State Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias said the decision to retract support for Aminuddin was linked to the ongoing crisis involving four chieftains seeking to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from his position.

PH and BN became allies after the November 2022 general election ended in a hung Parliament, with BN giving PKR president Anwar Ibrahim crucial support to become Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.

Both coalitions contested in the 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election as allies, with PH winning 17 seats and BN 14. - FMT
