KTM Bangi station to resume full operations next year

 

TRAIN services at the Bangi KTM station are expected to resume full operations next year once track upgrading works under the Klang Valley Double Track Phase Two (KVDT2) project are completed.

Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the state government was also discussing with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) to review the Smart Selangor bus route serving the station.

He said the review aimed to improve public transport access for residents in rapidly developing Semenyih, where housing areas remain poorly connected to main transit centres.

"Both the MRT Putrajaya Line in Kajang and KTM Komuter service in Bangi are located between 10km and 12km from Semenyih, making them difficult to access from residential areas,” he said.

To bridge the gap, he added that Rapid Bus operates the T450 and T460 feeder routes to MRT stations, while Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) runs the KJ02 Smart Selangor bus linking KTM Bangi with Bandar Bukit Mahkota near the Negri Sembilan border.

Demand-responsive transit (DRT) through Rapid On-Demand is also operating in Bandar Tasik Kesuma, Bandar Rinching, KTM Bangi and Sungai Jernih for first- and last-mile connectivity, said Ng.

He said the state government would continue working with transport operators, including Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and KTMB, to ensure smoother journeys for Semenyih residents.

“Priority for new Smart Selangor routes under MPKj is given to medium- and low-cost housing schemes, communities with high public transport dependence, healthcare facilities, commercial centres and educational institutions,” he said at the Selangor State Assembly held at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam.

He was replying to Nushi Mahfodz (PN–Semenyih), who asked about the criteria for determining bus routes and why public transport infrastructure had not kept pace with the area’s population growth.

Nushi urged the state government to engage MRT Corp over a "missing link" between MRT Kajang Line and Putrajaya Line.

He also called for Rapid On-Demand services to expand beyond Bandar Tasik Kesuma and Bandar Rinching into high-density developments such as Semenyih EcoHill and Eco Forest.

“The population in these areas is increasing and residents urgently better mobility options,” he said, while also proposing feeder bus routes for Bangi Avenue, Serene Heights and Aman Sari.

In response, Ng thanked Nushi for the proposals, giving an assurance that the state would collaborate with MPKJ, Prasarana and key stakeholders to address transport requirements in rapidly developing areas. - Mkini
