PKR Youth has rejoiced over news that former Dewan Negara speaker Tan Sri Rais Yatim will be charged at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court in Melaka this morning (Sept 25).
According to the e-Court system, the 84-year-old ‘independent’ Negeri Sembilan (N9) adat expert is scheduled to be charged before judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin at 9am.
Rais has confirmed the matter to Free Malaysia Today when contacted.
However, the details of his charge remain unclear although it is likely under the Sedition Act 1948 in relation to the proclamation of Tunku Nazaruddin Tuanku Jaafar as the 12th N9 Yang di-Pertuan Besar at a ceremony held at the Parkroyal A’Famosa Resort in Alor Gajah, Melaka on June 5.
Following his role in the on-going N9 royal dispute by openly supporting a move by three undang (chieftain) and a former undang to remove the reigning N9 Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the ruler had in July ordered revocation of state honours bestowed on Rais who was also a former menteri besar.
“He’s one of the masterminds behind the N9 royal turmoil by having previously supported the effort to remove Tuanku Muhriz from the throne,” penned PKR Youth on Threads under the heading “HERE WE GO”.
“Rais Yatim is also a former UMNO leader and currently the Parti Wawasan Negara chairman.”
Recently, pro-Madani political activist Liyana Marzuki has mocked perpetrators of the N9 constituently crisis that “the mastermind behind the N9 coup d’état is Rais Yatim from the Wawasan faction within PN (Perikatan Nasional) but the actual execution is carried out by UMNO leaders”.
“PN and PAS were smart enough to stay out of it. Now it has backfired; UMNO is the one being branded as disloyal while PN is just taking it easy,” jibed the trained lawyer.
As it is, the N9 royal row has led to the revocation of the appointments of 10 EXCO members as per a state gazette yesterday (Sept 24) by order of Tuanku Muhriz who had on Sept 20 sacked the entire state EXCO except for Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim.
“Whereas pursuant to Article XXXVIII(5) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, a member of the State Executive Council other than the Menteri Besar shall hold office for as long as it has my (Tuanku Muhriz) pleasure,” the gazette pointed out.
The 10 are Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli, Datuk Zaifulbahri Idris, Datuk Mustapha Nagoor, Siow Kong Choon, Siti Nur Umaira Hasim, Datuk Mohd Asna Amin, Datuk Mohd Razi Mohd Ali, Suhaimizan Bizar, Mohd Fairuz Mohd Isa and Datuk Razali Abu Samah.
According to the gazette, all 10 took and signed their oaths of office and pledges of allegiance before Tuanku Muhriz on Aug 7 before assuming office as members of the N9 state EXCO.
“And whereas, in view of your breach of the said pledge of allegiance, I hereby withdraw my pleasure and revoke your appointments as members of the Negri Sembilan state executive council,” added the gazette.
The gazette likely provides an answer to allegation by MB Ismail that the EXCO members were barred from entering their offices at Wisma Negeri while urging the relevant authorities to immediately review the directive.
Interestingly, the N9 UMNO deputy chairman/information chief also took a swipe at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who recently described his actions and that of the state EXCO members as insolent and uncivilised.
“I respect the PM’s concern for the royal institution. However, I’m concerned that the criticism is based on an incomplete picture of the actual role of the MB and the EXCO,” the Juasseh state assemblyman told a media conference yesterday (Sept 24).
“The state EXCO’s agreement on follow-up administrative action doesn’t mean it has taken over the powers of the Undang or become the party deciding on the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.”
He added that both himself and the state EXCO would not interfere in customary matters and the selection process that fall under the jurisdiction of others under the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959. – Focus Malaysia
