AYER KEROH: Former Dewan Negara Senator Tan Sri Rais Yatim arrived at the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court at around 8.40am on Friday (Sept 25) to face a charge under the Sedition Act related to the Negri Sembilan royal institutional crisis.
Rais, who is also the chairman of Parti Wawasan Negara, arrived accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Masnah Muhamat, and his son, Klawang State Assemblyman Danni Rais, reported Sinar Harian.
The case was registered before Sessions Court Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.
Rais is expected to be charged under Paragraph 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 [Act 15], punishable under Subsection 4(1) of the same act.
The charge is believed to be linked to an event held at a hotel in Melaka on June 5, where Tunku Nazaruddin Tuanku Jaafar was proclaimed as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
Rais has been an outspoken commentator on the ongoing dispute surrounding the Negeri Sembilan royal institution, frequently raising concerns about the position of the monarchy and the Attorney General's Chambers' (AGC) involvement in the crisis.
In July, two Negeri Sembilan state titles awarded to Rais were revoked with immediate effect by order of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. - Star
