PETALING JAYA:
A man involved in a six-vehicle crash that killed a five-year-old girl and injured two others at Jalan Kuching in Kuala Lumpur last week will be charged in court tomorrow.

Kuala Lumpur traffic police chief Zamzuri Isa said the suspect was arrested at a Damansara hospital upon his discharge today.

In a statement, he said the investigation paper was referred to the director of prosecutions, who agreed to charge the driver at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court at 9am.

The suspect will be charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, Section 42(1) of the Act for reckless and dangerous driving, and Section 52(1) for failing to stop after an accident.

On Monday, Zamzuri had said a BYD Seal crashed into the back of a motorcycle and a another car in slow-moving traffic, causing the second car to crash into three other vehicles while the BYD fled the scene.

The five-year-old daughter of the second car’s driver was in the rear passenger seat when the crash occurred. She suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The father suffered injuries on his right hand, while the motorcyclist sustained head injuries. The drivers of the other vehicles were not injured.

Police later discovered that the 24-year-old driver of the BYD Seal was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Damansara. - FMT
