SHAH ALAM: In his maiden speech as the new PKR president for the term of 2018-2021, Anwar Ibrahim warned that he would not tolerate troublemakers in the party.
He said there should not be quarrel among family members, adding that there is no room for poor behaviour, fights, insults and jeers among party members.
Anwar said his wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who was his predecessor, had advised him to go slow so as not to “shock” PKR members but he decided to issue the reminder nonetheless.
“Abide by the rules or we kick you out from the party,” he said.
Anwar said that the party would no longer tolerate such behaviour, although he would accept differences in opinion which could be expressed during the weekly political bureau or monthly central leadership meetings.
He said he wants the top leadership to form a united front so that outsiders would not be able to pit them against each other.
“Don’t give space for people to instigate. Don’t give room for people to talk bad, either from outside or within,” he said.
Anwar explained that although the spirit of unity could be seen within the party but supporters from certain camps who “behaved like monkeys” were tarnishing PKR’s image.
“People like these don’t deserve to be PKR members.” - FMT
