PETALING JAYA: The aviation authority will stop AirAsia from collecting RM3 from its passengers departing from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).
The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) said under the second phase of the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC), airlines will be prohibited from imposing unnecessary charges on passengers.
“The regulation will determine the charges (that) can be charged by the airports and airlines to consumers,” Mavcom chairman Nungsari Ahmad Radhi was quoted as saying by financial daily The Malaysian Reserve.
He said the proposal was awaiting approval from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, before being gazetted.
Since 2014, AirAsia has been charging a RM3 “KLIA2 fee” on all passengers departing from the budget airlines terminal.
The low-cost airline said the charge was necessary to cover its operational costs in klia2, which includes charges for use of airport facilities. - FMT
