Cops to grill duo behind ‘May 13’ threat

Raggie Jessy and Azwanddin Hamzah.
PETALING JAYA: Police are likely to arrest two individuals behind a recently formed Malay right-wing group, over speeches threatening a May 13-style riot against DAP supporters.
Raggie Jessy Rithaudeen, the chairman of Gagasan 3, a recently formed coalition to oppose DAP, and Azwanddin Hamzah, the group’s adviser, have been told to be present at the Ampang police headquarters tomorrow for questioning.
A spokesman for Ampang police told FMT that Azwanddin was being investigated over his speech “that could cause tension among different races in Malaysia”.
When contacted, Azwanddin said police had been calling him since last week.
“But I told them I had a few things to settle. I have been asked to be there at 9am tomorrow,” the businessman told FMT.
He said he was told to surrender, adding that he was “not sure what it is about”.
Raggie meanwhile urged supporters to gather outside the Ampang police headquarters tomorrow, saying Azwanddin was a “Malay Muslim leader who is prepared to lay down his life to uphold the institution of Islam in this country”.
Gagasan 3 was formed on Nov 21. The coalition said it wanted to to unite Malay Muslims, and blamed DAP leaders for what they said was an erosion of Malay rights under the Pakatan Harapan administration.
This followed a raging debate on the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
Amid intense opposition from Malay groups as well as Umno and PAS, Putrajaya yesterday announced that it would not ratify ICERD, despite earlier statements in support of the global anti-discrimination treaty.
Yesterday, police said it would act upon hundreds of police reports made in recent days linked to the controversy over ICERD. It is understood that they were also linked to viral video clips in which Azwanddin said he did not mind a repeat of the bloody racial riots of 1969 to teach DAP a lesson.
“I long for May 13. If we have to sharpen the parang (machete), we have to do it. If we have to sharpen the keris, we have to do it,” Azwanddin said in a speech to announce Gagasan 3.
“If you record this, show it to DAP. If you are insolent, we Malays can be more insolent,” he said.  - FMT
