BUDGET 2019 | Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad dismissed the opposition's claims that Budget 2019 tabled yesterday was a"copy-and-paste" budget from the previous government.
When asked to respond on the opposition's allegations regarding the budget, Mahathir said that the opposition can say whatever they want regarding the budget as they are not in power.
"They can say whatever they want because they have no power. (At least) the new government didn't create billions in debt," he said.
Earlier, Mahathir officiated at the Active Lifestyle Campaign at Setia City Park in Setia Alam, Selangor.
The event was also attended by his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and his deputy Lee Boon Chye, as well as Health Ministry secretary-general Dr Chen Chaw Min.
Yesterday, the opposition MPs took a jab at the tabling of the budget, with the opposition leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying the opposition rejected the budget as there were no surprises or miracle elements that people can relate to.
"There was no special allocation for farmers, fishermen and small plantation owners," Zahid added.
Other opposition MPs such as Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad alleged that the budget was an endorsement of the budget speeches by the previous government and that some incentives such as the Bantuan Sara Hidup cash handouts were copied from the previous government.
Former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah expressed disappointment with the budget as he was expecting something new from Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng who tabled the budget yesterday. - Mkini
