Court postpones woman’s acquittal plea over false molest report

Mathurai Veeran Krishnan, who says he was falsely accused of molesting a child last year.
PETALING JAYA: A group supporting a man who says he was falsely accused of molesting a four-year-old girl today claimed a small victory after the attempt by the child’s mother to obtain a full acquittal was postponed.
Maya Ahmad Fuaad was previously given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for the offence of lodging a false report against Mathurai Veeran Krishnan.
Her legal team sought a full acquittal at the Shah Alam High Court today, but according to a spokesman for the group, Justice for Veeran, case management was postponed to Dec 14.
“It started around 9.36am. After around 15 minutes, the court decided to postpone case management as they had yet to receive a full judgment prompt from the Magistrate’s Court,” Arun Dorasamy told FMT.
He said the postponement was the group’s first victory as it would give the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) time to review whether to reinstate the case against Maya.
“Once the AGC decides to reinstate the case, this (appeal for full acquittal) will have no locus standi,” he added.
Maya, the daughter of a former Malaysia Airlines Bhd managing director, filed a police report against Veeran on June 30 last year, accusing him of molesting her daughter who was four at the time.
She said her ex-husband was aware of the crime but had kept quiet about it to avoid jeopardising his custody battle.
Veeran had been working as a driver for the family of Maya’s ex-husband.
No action was taken against Veeran due to the amount of evidence refuting Maya’s claims. However, Veeran said his reputation had been tarnished, making it difficult for him to find another job.
In April, Maya was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code with lodging a false report. On Oct 1, however, Veeran was informed that the prosecution had received instructions from the AGC to drop the case against Maya.
The group submitted a letter of representation to AG Tommy Thomas on Nov 1, asking for the case against Maya to be reinstated.
Last week, they met and submitted a memorandum to a representative for Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy.
Arun today said they had received confirmation from the minister’s political secretary that his office was working on getting the case status from the AGC.

He said the Malaysia Hindu Sangam would also be sending a full representation of the case to the Malaysian Bar Council. - FMT
