Developer: Personnel, not thugs, provided support at temple under police watch

One City Development Sdn Bhd has reiterated that it did not use "thugs" in the attempted relocation of the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya.
Instead, One City said their personnel was there to provide support while under police watch.
"One City Development Sdn Bhd categorically denies hiring or authorizing the hiring of 'thugs' to initiate the riot at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Hicom Temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor, as mentioned in recent news reports.
"The personnel on site were directed to provide logistical support and assist in the orderly relocation under police watch," it said in a statement today.
The statement was made to Bursa Malaysia through its parent company MCT Berhad, which is majority-owned by Phillippines-based Ayala Corporation.
One City, which is the legal owner of the land on which the temple sits on, said it is it cooperating with authorities on the matter.
In its previous statements, the developer had made no mention of having anyone linked to it on the scene of the riot, saying that claims it orchestrated the incident are malicious, and that the company would be at a disadvantage to create such tension, despite having gone through a lengthy legal process.
Earlier today, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said investigations found that lawyers of the developer had paid RM150,000 to a group of men to take control of the temple.
The incident, which happened in the wee hours of Monday, led to clashes with Hindu devotees at the temple, culminating in a riot.
Thousands of people gathered near the temple the following day in a show of support, but fresh rioting broke out when Fire and Rescue Department personnel came under attack, with one landing one in intensive care unit. - Mkini
