Different Futures

Some fantastic news today. The following video is a must see.  This young guy at the MIT has figured out the 'ion drive' propulsion (he calls it electro-aerodynamic propulsion) to put a heavier than air vehicle (aka an airplane) in the air. The successful flight lasted 10 seconds over 60 metres (180 feet).  This  plane has no moving parts at all - battery driven as well.  (This news was already reported in FMT - but no video there).

They place anodes and cathodes fore and aft of the wing and shoot 20,000 volts of electricity, of reverse polarity front and back. The nitrogen in the air is ionised and flows from front to back, dragging other air molecules and creating a strong "wind" above and below the wings. This creates lift and the plane flies forward as well.  The video is self explanatory.

This future looks great. Let us hope that Steven Barret will soon make a 60 km flight and then take it to 6000 km. Can you imagine flight without propellers or jet engines? (They will still need an internal engine to produce the voltage, I doubt batteries can provide the power to weight ratio for a full sized ion drive airplane).

Here is more about the great future. This is from Singapore.

(My apologies about the 5G post - it was fake news. Korea already has a 5G network up and running. The 5G works.)

This Singapore news sounds real enough. They are doing wonders in Singapore. The main thing I would like to point out is their 'duty of care' or commitment to the future of their people in Singapore.

One of the doctors or teachers in the video says quite matter of factly 'children in Singapore read a lot'.  More important is what they read. (In Malaysia the best selling books are  cerita hantu, jin, toyol, kisah cinta and buku agama.)

About 40 years ago Singapore invested a lot in community libraries. Every HDB development and neighborhood had its own library. Anyone can access the libraries, even foreign expats. They are all world class in terms of content. And they had good follow through. Children were encouraged by teachers and the community libraries to go to the libraries and read books. They kept track of book check outs.  If the numbers dropped in a neighborhood they would organise reading campaigns and other programs to get the children into the library.

This is a nation that has been thinking for over 55 years now.  Thus far their future (aka today) has already been great. They have an even greater future ahead of them.

Now here is looking at another future. This is from Pas run terengganu.

First of all let me assure you that the idea that men cannot wear shorts is NOT in the Quran. Even the Saudi Arabian football team wears shorts.

It is not likely that terengganu will be developing any ion drive airplanes in the foreseeable future.  Neither will they be able to reduce myopia or short sightedness in thesmelves.  Instead of dopamine they already suffer overdoses of plain dope.

Finally here is a very disturbing video. This was sent to me by a reader. Thank you. This looks like a SMK school here in Malaysia. I dont think it is Indonesia. This violent video shows bullying going on in this school.

Every country has work to do. Every society has to solve its problems and keep progressing.

Not too long ago, basic hygiene, public health, rule of law, peaceful communities,  good transportation, housing, education, sufficient food and nutrition, health services, opportunities to progress were all lacking in ALMOST ALL COUNTRIES except a few.   Here is Singapore in the 1950s.

What all countries did (including Malaysia) was to solve these problems. 73 years after the second world war and 61 years after Independence we should have overcome most of these problems.

Many countries have. Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, China, now Vietnam, Philippines and maybe Indonesia are headed in the right direction.

The problems have been overcome - to some extent.  The next big task is anticipating the future and overcoming future challenges. Another way of putting it is 'how to become richer, wealthier and more successful. How to enjoy an even higher standard of living'.

The Americans are going to fly airplanes without moving parts. The Singaporeans have invented special watches to monitor how much sunlight their children get.

They are beyond useless arguments and false belief systems that get you nowhere.

The danger in Malaysia is that instead of becoming wealthier and better we are going back to creating problems.  We are regressing backwards.

A weak education system, poor value systems, importing alien and barbaric arabic culture / civilisation, the weakest implementation of policies is just creating problems that we actually resolved a long time ago.

Instead of working on taking our society to the next level, they are talking about shorts and skirts for men and women,  its ok to be communal etc etc.

I hope there will be enough people out there, especially malay and Muslim, who will see that at this pace, we are headed towards oblivion. Towards backwardness, ignorance and poverty.

Real leadership is needed.  Real thinking is needed. You have to be brave.

Standing tall, attending ceremonies, officiating functions, cutting ribbons etc courtesy of how much oil money Petronas can still pump is living in a delusional cocoon. It is just delusion. We must snap out of this.
