KUALA LUMPUR: Former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Hasan Arifin today claimed he was unaware of any tampering in the original report on 1MDB issued by the National Audit Department two years ago.
The Rompin lawmaker said he assumed the report was accurate when former Auditor-General (A-G) Ambrin Buang tabled the report in March 2016.
Ambrin had also denied that any alteration was made to the report, Hasan told reporters at the Parliament lobby earlier.
Current A-G Madinah Mohamad revealed the order to tamper with the report had come from former prime minister Najib Razak’s private secretary.
Among the alleged alterations was a paragraph stating that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, had attended 1MDB’s board meeting.
Yesterday, Ambrin was summoned to give his statement to the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in regards to claims that the 1MDB report had been altered.
Last month, deputy PAC chief Wong Kah Woh had revealed that the initial report on 1MDB had been tampered with.
Hasan was appointed as the PAC chief on Oct 19, 2015, replacing Nur Jazlan Mohamed after the Pulai lawmaker had been appointed as the deputy home minister in a Cabinet reshuffle on July 28, 2015. -FMT
