Some 300 people from Selayang staged a protest in front of Kuala Lumpur City Hall's headquarters this morning, objecting to a poultry abattoir project in their area.
The protesters, including two Members of Parliament, called for DBKL and the federal government to relocate the abattoir, saying that its proposed location beside the Selayang market was unsuitable and would pose a health risk to residents around the area.
Abdul Aziz Mohd Alias, secretary of the coalition of 62 NGOs that staged the protest, said they were disappointed that the project was continuing despite multiple objections from them.
The group led by Aziz and the two MPs - William Leong Jee Keen (Selayang) and Lim Lip Eng (Kepong) - also delivered a memorandum on the matter to DBKL's Economy and Development Planning director Azmi Abdul Hamid.
