Gobind cuts TM some slack after MCMC tick-off, says govt ready to help telco

PETALING JAYA: The Government is prepared to assist Telekom Malaysia (TM) in tackling issues faced by the group, says Gobind Singh Deo.
The Communications and Multimedia Minister in a tweet on Tuesday (Nov 20), thanked TM for their response and commitment.
"(I) look forward to discuss proposals hopefully by next week.
"Rest assured this (government) is prepared to assist wherever possible to achieve a solution which is beneficial to all concerned," he wrote.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in a statement on Monday (Nov 19) took TM to task over the telco's poor service.
The regulator pointed out that TM had the highest number of complaints compared with other service providers, based on the average number of complaints for every 1,000 subscribers.
The MCMC received 7,946 complaints on TM services this year, representing an increase of 43% from 4,528 received in 2017.
The complaints against TM were on pricing (21%), lack of Unifi coverage (16%), Unifi service disruption (13%), billing disputes (14%), service delivery (14%) and other categories (22%).
To this, TM issued a statement that it has always been in touch with its consumers, investing in its infrastructure, and looking to work with the government for a win-win situation.- Star
