KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is gathering evidence for action against the circulation of false information stoking sensitivities over the disturbances near a Hindu temple in Selangor.
Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo warned of stern action against people circulating on social media messages pertaining to the trouble near the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, early Monday and yesterday.
“The information will be given to me soon so that I can study it in detail,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
Gobind advised social media users to keep their emotions in check when making comments on disturbances involving the relocation of the temple.
He said every citizen had a role to play in ensuring the issue is addressed in the best way possible and they should be careful when sharing comments on social media so as to avoid causing undesirable problems.
In the disturbances early Monday and yesterday, a mob attacked devotees, police and firefighters. As a result, 23 cars and motorcycles were torched. The offices of the developer, One City, were also vandalised. One of the firefighters was injured and hospitalised.
Finas board of directors
Gobind said he would announce this week, at the latest, the appointment of the members of the new board of directors of the National Film Development Corporation (Finas).
“I was informed that a meeting was held last Monday and the members of the new board of directors have been appointed.
“I was also informed that a new advisory body has also been appointed.
“I will meet the new officers soon and make the announcement this week, including on the appointment of the director-general and the deputy director-general,” he said. - FMT
