Members at Malay Chamber’s EGM will face action, says president

DPMM president Rizal Faris Mohideen Kader rejects any resolutions made at the EGM this morning, including a vote to sack him.
KUALA LUMPUR: Members who attended the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of the Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMM) this morning can have disciplinary action taken against them under clause 27.2 of the body’s constitution.
DPMM president Rizal Faris Mohideen Kader also said in accordance with DPMM’s constitution, under clause 27.6.6, DPMM members who initiate court proceedings on the chamber, automatically have their membership in the chamber and state chamber declared null and void.
Rizal said action can be taken against deputy president Syed Hussein Alhabshee and those who went against the DPMM constitution by holding the EGM earlier today, hours before the chamber was to hold its annual general meeting (AGM).
“The AGM has full power to determine the outcome of any disputes occurring in the EGM,” Rizal added.
As such, Rizal rejected any resolutions made at the EGM this morning, including a vote to sack him.
After the four-hour AGM in the afternoon, Rizal said he remained the president.
At the EGM, 89 out of the 92 delegates supported a resolution to boot out Rizal, who is also the head of DPMM’s Penang chapter. Rizal was elected president for three years in May last year.
During the EGM, Syed Hussein was picked as acting president.
Syed Hussein and 17 DPMM members had filed a suit two months ago accusing Rizal of spending RM5 million allocated to DPMM by the Prime Minister’s Office.
They said the money was not deposited into the chamber’s account but was instead channelled into Yayasan DPMM Pulau Pinang Berhad’s account without approval.
They also claimed RM1 million was credited to DPMM from a company known as “Redberry” and Rizal had decided to use the money for an election campaign, also without getting approval from the chamber.

Rizal today urged members not to believe “rumours and accusations” against him. -FMT
