NFC lawyer seeks postponement of Rafizi's appeal

The lawyer appearing for National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) Sdn Bhd and its chairperson Mohd Salleh Ismail, today applied for a postponement of the hearing of former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's appeal at the Court of Appeal.
This is the fourth time the case had been postponed.
Senior lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said his client is working on a global settlement to the case and other related cases.
"I have informed the lawyers for Rafizi that we have received instructions for a postponement of this matter.
"Negotiations are still on for a global settlement in this case and proceedings in three similar matters. Our concern if this case goes on it may cause uneasiness in other cases. For this reasôn we apply for the postponement," he told the bench.
Lawyer Ranjit Singh, who appeared with Razlan Hadri Zulkifli, for Rafizi, told the bench led by Court of Appeal judge, Justice Hamid Sultan Abu Backer, that neither they, nor their client, were aware of the efforts for a global settlement, and would leave it to the court to decide.
This led to Justice Hamid asking the parties to negotiate and not waste the court's time as this involves a sum of justice of only RM300,000.
The bench that also consisted of Justice Hanipah Farikullah and Justice Kamaludin Md Said then granted the adjournment.
After case management, the court fixed May 13 next year to hear the case.
Rafizi is appealing against having to pay RM200,000 in total damages to NFC and Salleh and a cost of RM50,000 each to NFC and Salleh.
This is over his expose on NFC's and Salleh.
NFC and Salleh had also sued Malaysiakini, besides Rafizi but it lost its case against the news portal. In one of the postponements sought, Shafee informed the court that his clients agreed to withdraw its appeal against Malaysiakini.
Besides this case, NFC and Salleh had also filed suits against Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar for defamation, which is pending at the Federal Court, and another against Public Bank for allegedly revealing confidential information. -Mkini
