Parents demanding for Tamil school protest in front of Chinese school

A group of parents and their children today protested in front of SJK(C) Serendah, demanding for the long-promised SJK(T) Serendah which has yet to be built.
The new school was intended as a replacement of the SJK(T) Ladang Minyak which had closed down due to dwindling students.
The previous BN government had announced the building of a new school in 2012 after securing a land but progress had been slow despite the availability of a site.
The parents were frustrated that despite a change of government, construction for SJK(T) Serendah has not begun.
"The land is already available, so is the allocation, but we don't see any construction.
"Today is the 200th day Pakatan Harapan became the federal government. There had been Harapan leaders who promised they can resolve the problem within 24 hours if they become the government.
"It's been 200 days and there is still no action," said Save SJK(T) Serendah action committee chairperson M Jeeva.
Jeeva (photo) said the action committee has now escalated the matter to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He added that a letter was also sent to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P Waythamoorthy.
Some 100 people attended the protest, including parents and their children who were in school uniforms.
They carried placards questioning the delay and pleaded for Mahathir to intervene.
One parent who only wanted to be known as Ragunath said promise for the school had been made as early as when former MIC president G Palanivel was the Hulu Selangor MP.
"I was 13 years old then... now I am married and have four children, there is still no school," he said.
Palanivel was the Hulu Selangor MP from 1990 to 2008.
Jeeva said at present, students have to travel to outside of Serendah to attend a Tamil school. - Mkini
