KUALA LUMPUR: Police have set up a special task force to find the culprits behind the riots at Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun (pic) said a special team from Bukit Aman would help Selangor police to track down individuals responsible for the riot that resulted in property damage and also injured several people including fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
"We are closely following several leads to nab those behind this riot.
"Witnesses or anyone with information about this case are urged to contact us immediately," he said to a press conference at the Royal Malaysian Police College in Cheras on Wednesday (Nov 28).
Mohamad Fuzi also denied that a policeman was involved in the riots after a picture of a man taken at the scene, said to be a policeman, went viral.
"He is not a policeman. He used to be a member of the Police Volunteer Reserve (PVR) but he was terminated due to numerous issues," he said.
He was speaking after officiating the launch of two books Evidence and Charging and Guidebook to Criminal Investigations Involving Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive agents (CBRNE) at the college.
He said the two books are a proactive approach by the police to address any weaknesses or gaps in knowledge that may exist in the force.
"The books also take into account commentary and guidance from the Attorney General on various cases that our investigators may come across," he said.
Mohamad Fuzi also said that while Malaysia rarely sees cases that involve CBRNE elements, the guidebook would help the police to be prepared for all eventualities.
"We have learned from the few cases like the Kim Jong-nam case and the theft of two radioactive projector units in 2017," he said.- Star
