Rosmah and ex-aide accused of brokering solar project - sources

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's wife Rosmah Mansor and her former aide Rizal Mansor are expected to be charged in court today over their alleged role in relation to a government solar hybrid project in Sarawak, said sources.
The highly placed sources told Malaysiakini that both Rosmah and Rizal had allegedly helped secure the project for a third party.
They are expected to face several charges under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, said one of the sources.
"In this case, the offence (allegedly committed by Rosmah and Rizal) was for brokering the project for a third party.
"Under the law, it is an offence for anyone to play the role of middleperson for another party to obtain a (project) approval," said a source.
A high-ranking investigator said Rosmah would be charged with two counts of receiving gratification, while Rizal would face three or four charges.
However, the source declined to commit to an exact figure for the charges nor reveal the amount of gratification involved, saying that the details would be read out in court later.
Sources said although the case only involved one project, the number of charges would be based on how many times Rosmah and Rizal had allegedly solicited and accepted the bribes.
Yesterday, it was reported that MACC had ordered both Rosmah and Rizal to appear in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court at 2.30pm on Nov 15.
The anti-graft commission in a statement yesterday said that both of them would be facing charges related to an investigation into the supply and installation of solar power technology at schools in Sarawak.
Malaysiakini revealed in June that the Education Ministry, under the previous administration, had awarded a solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak to a Bintulu-based company under "direct orders" from Najib.
The project was said to be worth RM1.25 billion.
