Selangor gets its first female OCPD

SUNGAI BULOH: Supt Shafa’aton Abu Bakar (pic) created history as the first female OCPD in Selangor following her appointment as the Sungai Buloh chief.
The crime buster, with an extensive career in CID, especially in the Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division (D11), said she was honoured to be given a chance to serve the people in the district.
“This is a huge responsibility but I will perform the duty entrusted upon me to the best of my abilities.
“It is definitely a huge honour to be the first female OCPD in the state,” she told reporters after the handing over ceremony held at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters yesterday.
Supt Shafa’aton, who was previously attached to Kuala Lumpur’s D11, takes over from Supt S. Somu.
She added that her priority will always be the safety and security of the people.
“The rule of law must always apply.
“I will carry out my duties without fear or favour,” she said.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said he has the utmost faith that Supt Shafa’aton will perform well in her new post.
“For one, I am sure she will have no problem in crime busting, given her experiences in CID.
“I am proud of her, as her appointment signals we are heeding the IGP’s call for more participation of women in higher ranking positions in the police force,” he said.
Comm Mazlan also thanked Supt Somu for his 18-month service as Sungai Buloh OCPD.
“He did an exceptional job, and I am sure the new OCPD will continue in fine fashion,” he said.
In his speech, Comm Mazlan said given the ever-changing demographics of Sungai Buloh, which is semi-urban, the number of personnel and logistics should be increased from time to time.
“I hope the officers can identify a location for a new district headquarters as we have to start planning from now.
“An OCPD is the commander of the district. As the commander, you are a jack of all trades.
“The OCPD must ensure that all elements work well towards serving the people,” he added.- Star
