Separate canteen: Maszlee says highlight positive, not just negative news

Education Minister Maszlee Malik said he has no information regarding a missionary school in Malacca which has a separate canteen serving halal food.
“(Off hand) I have no information...I will comment later," he said when met at the Parliament lobby this afternoon.
However, the minister said the media should highlight positive news regarding local schools instead of focusing on the negative.
"In news writing, we cannot merely sensationalise negative news. I hope the media publishes 1,000 good news as this will give a good lesson for this particular school.
"But when we highlight one particular school, it is as if it happens all over Malaysia. This will not affect racial ties in a good way.
"When other missionary schools and Chinese schools have no problem (with a single canteen), we need to help them (the school in Malacca) by showing that they (the rest) are okay," he added.
Previously, the Malaysian Insight reported that SMK St Francis had a separate canteen. Following this, news surfaced that other missionary and vernacular schools also practised the same.
