Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman today claimed he had long been doubtful of 1MDB and fugitive businessperson Jho Low.
In fact, he said he had even pressed former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak to take action against 1MDB's management and its board of directors.
This after finding out that the company's various transactions were carried out not according to procedures, he said.
"I still remember my words back then (about two years ago). I said if we (BN) waited too long (to explain 1MDB), the rakyat will stop trusting us. The people cannot wait. They want to see action being taken.
"He (Najib) was silent then. My duty as a party leader and team member was to voice out on issues, give opinions.
"In fact, when (former 1MDB president and chief executive officer) Arul Kandasamy tried to portray to Umno supreme council members that nothing fishy had happened in 1MDB, I asked him how many million had been paid out to Aabar Investment," Tajuddin told reporters at Parliament today.
According to him, the 1MDB scandal had tainted Umno's image.
"We not only want Umno to rise up again but we also want him (Jho Low) caught. The authorities and the government should try their best to trace him and bring him back," he added.
Earlier today, Najib, who is also the former finance minister, claimed that his administration could have been cheated by Low who has been accused of masterminding the 1MDB scandal. - Mkini
