‘TOO EARLY TO PINPOINT MASTERMIND’- IGP ANNOUNCES SPECIAL TASKFORCE TO TRACK DOWN SUSPECTS IN TEMPLE & SHOPPING MALL RIOTS

CHERAS: Police are forming a special task force dedicated towards tracking down suspects involved in the riots at the Sri Maha Mariamman, USJ 25, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya since Monday.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the team from the Federal Police would assist the Selangor contingent police headquarters in locating the people who had injured two civil staff during the incident.
“The task force is also currently tracking down the group which rioted at One City shopping mall.
“The operation is underway to hunt down the suspects involved in the attack on the policeman and a firefighter,” he told a Press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Royal Malaysia Police College here today.
He said the 21 people arrested in connection to the riot were still under remand to facilitate police investigation.
“It is too early for us (police) to point out one of them as the mastermind,” he said.
He said the situation at the temple was under control on the third day yesterday, despite attempts by a group of 50 to 100 people to create a commotion.
“Police need information from the public; some of them might have recorded videos and others (information).
“We are able to process (the videos) that would help the task force in tracking down the suspects,” he said.
Mohamad Fuzi earlier launched a book on evidence and prosecution; and a guidebook to criminal investigations involving Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE).
Also present was deputy IGP Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim and Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd.
Twenty-three vehicles were torched during the incidents and a building was also damaged since Monday.
A firefighter from the Subang Jaya fire station was critically injured yesterday after being attacked by an angry mob at the temple and is on life support at the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Subang Jaya.
