THE Pakatan Harapan government is keeping to its manifesto promise of bringing wrong-doers from the previous administration to book.
In the run-up to the 14th general election, Dr Mahahtir Mohamad repeatedly promised to go after those who stole from the country. And since May 9, after PH won federal power, the authorities have been rolling them in.
Former prime minister Najib Razak, former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman are some of the top Umno leaders charged with various offences.
Even Umno lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was not spared. Shafee is also currently Najib’s lawyer.
The last Umno leader to get charged was Arau MP Shahidan Kassim on Tuesday. The charge was not related to corruption or money-laundering but for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old schoolgirl.
The court drama continues tomorrow when Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, and her aide, Rizal Mansor, are expected to face six charges related to the RM1.25 billion solar-hybrid project in Sarawak.
This will be Rosmah’s second appearance in court after she was slapped with 17 counts of money-laundering and tax evasion early last month.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) sources said this is not the end.
MACC has already commenced investigations into other Umno leaders, including Baling MP Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
For now, the anti-graft agency is keeping mum on who else is targeted but that has not stopped the rumour mill from churning out names daily.
