Former deputy prime minister Musa Hitam today disputed the content of a viral video, where he is seen making disparaging comments about Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said the 20-second video clip had been so edited to fit the purpose of those who circulated it on social media.
“The content is a mix of clipping a video and adding sentences to achieve a certain objective. It makes it look like I have used abusive words directed at Mahathir,” he said in a statement today.
Musa explained that the video was based on a discussion that took place about four years ago, when he was asked to comment on his resignation as the deputy prime minister.
He served as deputy prime minister from 1981 to 1986 in the Mahathir administration.
Musa added that upon closer examination, it is clear that the words ‘kotor’ (dirty), ‘dosa besar’ (highly sinful) and such that appeared in the video were not directed at Mahathir, but to an activist who suggested that Mahathir had removed him as deputy prime minister.
