PKR POLLS | Outgoing PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the party's elections have yet to be completed, although those aligned to Azmin Ali are already celebrating his victory.
Asked to comment on the actions of Azmin's supporters, Wan Azizah replied: "I don't know why (they are celebrating). We have not arrived at the end... Sometimes, people are just excited."
Wan Azizah was speaking to reporters after launching the Astro Junior Championships U15 (Regional) badminton tournament in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, today.
Officially, the main phase of the PKR leadership elections concluded yesterday with Azmin appearing poised to win a third term as PKR deputy president.
However, a complaint filed by those aligned to challenger Rafizi Ramli has led to the suspension of elections for the Julau division. It is widely speculated that the elections committee (JPP) would set Wednesday for the re-election.
Asked if the Julau division re-election would take place, Wan Azizah said she was not privy to that information.
"I am waiting for JPP to make a decision... I am leaving that (to them) as proof that we want the election to be conducted independently," she said.
According to Malaysiakini's unofficial tally, Azmin has secured 51.82 percent of the votes for the deputy presidency.
According to the JPP's official Twitter page, Azmin's allies Haniza Talha and Dr Afif Bahardin are leading the race for the leadership of the party's Women's wing and Youth wing, respectively.
Those aligned to Azmin are also expected to secure 15 out of 20 elected central leadership council (MPP) seats. - Mkini
