Yoursay: Polls marred by irregularities a wake-up call for PKR

YOURSAY | ‘Azmin’s rival in the party election was not Rafizi, but Anwar.’
SV: This PKR election has been nothing more than an illustration of party president Anwar Ibrahim’s weak leadership.
His speech at the 13th National PKR Congress showed that he was only intent on consolidating his position, showing little concern of the flawed election process which clearly contained elements of corrupt practice.
PKR needs to wake up, the rakyat is watching.
Anonyxyz: This PKR election was not about the rivalry between Rafizi Ramli and Mohamed Azmin Ali and their respective camps, but Azmin testing his support against Anwar.
Just look at how he appeared to have instructed former Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin to challenge outgoing president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Darmakochi: Yes, this PKR election is a joke. It has all the elements of what BN was accused of doing in all previous general elections. Accusations of money politics, missing votes, unfair handling of the elections and attempts to rig the results.
All PKR members ought to be ashamed of themselves for betraying the trust of ordinary Malaysians, who really thought the recent elections would bring some fundamental change to the political landscape of our beloved nation. Please grow up before it is too late.
Anonymous_be07867c: Good to have a checkmate, so that Anwar can’t act as the indispensable choice to be prime minister after Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He has lost all the charismatic leadership after his release from prison – defending race, religion and royalty which seems to be his utmost priorities even before becoming prime minister.
Azmin can be the check on Anwar’s ambition because almost all in the new PKR line-up are aligned to him. The drama is expected to begin soon after this.
Anonymous: This PKR election clearly indicates that Anwar is not fit to be the eighth prime minister. Taking sides, and his speech at the congress, which was only full of rhetoric, prove that his character is still stuck in the Umno era.
Roger 5201: This election is a proxy war in which one side tried very hard to win but lost. Rafizi exposed a glaring weakness in the ‘Anwar Dynasty,’ the head of which was himself ‘elected unopposed’ – that is, unelected.
PKR's very own reformasi legacy is now in tatters, tainted by allegations of vote-buying and phantom voters.
Anonymous_1371482984: Rafizi, your farewell speech provokes and aggravates rather than reconciles. How can you aspire to be a national leader?
Pakcik Am: Rafizi, able as he is, requires a public relations consultant. Competing in teams based on personal affiliations within a political party is unhealthy. Polarising on ideals seems alright, but not on personalities.
Anonymous 728021502366367: Indeed, there will be no guarantee of a Harapan victory in the 15th general election if it fails to achieve what it promised in the 14th general election, especially in two main areas – corruption and politics of patronage.
The rakyat can tolerate things like racism, religious extremism and education setbacks. These things take a longer time to address.
Hopefully, they need to look into the rising cost of living, otherwise this will eventually contribute to a higher crime rate.
Chuen Tick: Good on Nurul Izzah Anwar to point out this fact. Do remember that Harapan obtained only 49 percent of the popular vote.
Dex: Anwar should seriously consider grooming the next prime minister for GE15. Age is not with him, as he is no Mahathir. His obsession with becoming the prime minister is very obvious, especially of late.
That’s fine since he has done so much to get rid of the old regime. But as time is not on his side, he too should gracefully step aside for the next leader.
Don’t worry Anwar – the people will still remember you.
Causerie: I suppose most agree that Mahathir is the best candidate for prime minister. But his successor will have to prove through deeds that he or she is the most suitable candidate.
The new government, which inherited a damaged economy, has a tough job ahead, as financials are bad and new parameters will take some time to be fully implemented. With a not-so-bright outlook in the near future, policies have to be implemented immediately.
The economy is being led by government-linked companies (GLCs), and many economists argue that the level of efficiency would be higher if such businesses were privatised.
This will most probably bring a better multiplier effect to important economic indicators, as most are widely affected by perception as well as forecast.
GLCs may have been necessary when the economy was much smaller, but now, there must be a target where privatisation is the next course of business.
Ipoh PP: Nurul Izzah, I can sincerely tell you that l voted for PKR because of the things your father said while he was in the slammer. He was able to see things better then.
Saying he was going to go off lecturing, not take up a post, let Mahathir run the show, and talked of those who were poor of all races. Now he sings a different song. Immediately becoming an MP, only talking about bumiputera rights and rocking Mahathir.
Anonymous_1534058315: Apparently, when one is in the cell facing the walls day in and day out, one has great ideas and dreams on the right things to do.
Just think back, after Anwar was released from prison the first time, he had all the time to contribute positively, but power and money blurred his faculties. He was all over the place, but nothing much came out of it.
Will it be any different this time around? Malaysia is awaiting a visionary, a great leader to emerge. And we’re still waiting.
New Horizon: It’s too soon to talk about GE15. In any case, Harapan will not fall due to pressure from outside forces, but more likely from overambitious PKR leaders who are already getting arrogant, greedy and destructive.
Anonymous_1419577444: You are right, Nurul Izzah, but too late. My extended family and I have all decided that we will not vote for PKR in GE15. All of us, who live in different parts of Malaysia and overseas, voted for Harapan in GE14.
Some family members travelled great distance, went through great inconvenience and spent a lot on travelling costs just to cast their votes.
Two days later, we were betrayed by PKR who turned out to be obsessed with grabbing power. No more, Nurul Izzah. Once bitten, twice shy.
Kamalappans: A lesson will be taught to Harapan in the Rantau by-election. Buck up. - Mkini
