Cops probe WhatsApp group for sending death threats to Guan Eng

Malaysiakini

The police are investigating a Whatsapp group which had allegedly issued death threats to former finance minister Lim Guan Eng.
Lim (photo) was previously accused of selling four Lembaga Tabung Haji hotels to a Ministry of Finance Inc special purpose vehicle (SPV) called Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd.
The accusations had been disputed by then minister in the prime minister's department Mujahid Yusof Rawa, who pointed out that it is the minister of religious affairs and not the finance minister who is responsible for decisions pertaining to Tabung Haji.
In a letter sent to Lim on March 18, Bukit Aman's legal department head Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the group goes by the moniker "Skuad Cari Pasal".
"The police said the case is being investigated under section 4(1) of the 1948 Sedition Act, and Section 233 of the Malaysian Multimedia and Communications Act," Lim told Malaysiakini.
In February, police nabbed a suspect - Nor Zigan Mohd Tori, 47, who owned a Facebook account under the name "Zihan Tori" for purportedly sending Lim a death threat over the sale of Tabung Haji assets at 8.06am on Feb 18.
He has been charged under section 233 (1) (a) Malaysian Multimedia and Communications Act.
Nor Zigan pleaded not guilty when brought to the Sessions Courts in Kuala Lumpur, and was released on police bail of RM6,000. - Mkini
