Govt lists do’s and don’ts for MPs during MCO

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa visits those housed in temporary shelters in Kuala Lumpur as a measure against the Covid-19 outbreak.
PETALING JAYA: The National Security Council (NSC) has released a guideline for elected representatives on how to move about their constituencies during the movement control order (MCO) period.
In an April 21 letter addressed to Parliament, NSC director-general Mohd Rabin Basir said MPs and state assemblymen are bound by the MCO like everybody else and must comply with the guidelines given.
According to the circular, elected reps are allowed to bring along two other people during field trips.
Such trips must be related to the survey of the livelihoods of those in their constituencies and/or welfare handouts in their areas. It is recommended that each visit concludes in under 10 minutes, with programmes restricted from going beyond an hour.
Elected reps are not allowed to participate in gatherings, including kenduris or closed-door meetings.
Open-air meetings are also prohibited, including the gathering of constituents to welcome their representatives.
Representatives are banned from uploading photos on social media which could disturb the peace. They are also discouraged from holding press conferences and interviews or giving speeches.
While they are not required to wear personal protective equipment when visiting locations, they are expected to keep a one-metre distance from others, to wash their hands and use hand sanitiser and to wear face masks if they exhibit any symptoms of the virus.
Earlier today, Deputy Health Minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali and Perak executive councillor Razman Zakaria were fined RM1,000 each for violating the MCO by attending a lunch event two weeks ago.
They were the first elected reps to be charged for breaching the MCO. - FMT
