Inspector arrested for alleged rape of two women hauled at MCO roadblock

Malaysiakini

Police yesterday arrested its officer over the suspected rape of two Mongolian women. The inspector was detained at a movement control order (MCO) roadblock in Petaling Jaya.
According to Petaling Jaya district police chief, Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal, a police team was sent to a hotel in the district after they received information that two women were being held against their will at the premises.
"The team was led by my deputy, Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood, due to the sensitivity of the case. We made a plan and carried out surveillance at the location, before moving in to rescue the two women.
"Following an initial investigation, we then arrested a police officer ranked inspector, who was attached to the district police headquarters," Ezanee told reporters today.
It is learned that the suspect was on duty at one of the MCO roadblocks in Petaling Jaya when the police stopped a vehicle that was transporting the victims.
According to sources, the women could not provide an explanation why they were on the road during the MCO and were suspected of being involved in vice activities based on several items found with them during police checks.
"After the women were arrested, the inspector volunteered to take them to the police station.
"However, instead of taking them to the lock-up, the suspect brought them to a hotel," said a source close to the case.
Ezanee also said police would also pursue an investigation into a vice ring that was suspected of trafficking the two women.
He stressed that the women were victims in the case and police are placing them in protective custody.
"The women have been sent to undergo medical checks and they are now under the care of our D11 officers (sexual crime unit).
"We will proceed by requesting for an interim protection order from a magistrate to protect them," he said.
According to Ezanee, the police inspector, aged 30, is now under remand for five days to facilitate investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. - Mkini
