Ismail Sabri: Charities should register Covid-19 funds for tax exemptions

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Various Malaysian charities setting up Covid-19 related funds should be registered so donors can benefit from tax exemptions.
Senior Minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said these funds need to be registered with the Finance Ministry to qualify.
He said the government was grateful that many conscientious Malaysians have come forward to help those in need.
"A lot of funds have been set up, for that we are grateful. The government is advising that all these funds be registered.
"The Finance Ministry has announced that donors will be given tax exemption incentives," he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail said Putrajaya's Covid-19 fund has received RM22.66 million to date.
He said RM5.68 million was channelled to Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) during Phase 1 of the movement control order (MCO) period.
"These were used to buy daily necessities, especially for those in the enhanced MCO areas," he said.
Subsequently, RM9.06 million was channelled to YKN and the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry during Phase 2, he said.
Ismail thanked Malaysians and businesses which contributed to the fund. - Mkini
