Malaysiakini

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah was today briefed on measures undertaken by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) today regarding the economy.
Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara, Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said the king was supportive of efforts by the government to ensure adequate food supply during the movement control order (MCO) period.
The king (photo) also voiced his approval for the cabinet's decision to form a special committee on the economy and human resources to deal with the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.
This committee is jointly led by Miti and the Defence Ministry.
"His Majesty appreciates this decision because the government must handle the effects of Covid-19 on the economy, especially areas concerning the country's finances, economy and public harmony.
"His Majesty is also concerned about the effects of the pandemic on small and medium-sized industries (SMEs), along with the country's workforce," said Ahmad Fadil.
He added that the king also urged the public to be patient and be strong in facing the pandemic until the situation goes back to normal.
He said the king's audience with Azmin lasted 30 minutes through online conferencing.
Azmin is the third minister to brief the king after Health Minister Dr Adham Baba and Islamic Affairs Minister Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri. - Mkini
