MCO violater wants jail sentence revised, claims disparity in sentencing - report

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | A prisoner serving a 30-day jail term for violating the movement control order is reportedly seeking to have her sentence revised, citing a disparity in sentencing.
According to Free Malaysia Today, B Lisa Christina said in her court papers filed on April 22 that she was charged alongside two others a day earlier for a similar offence.
After pleading guilty, however, the single mother was slapped with a 30-day jail term while the other two were punished with the maximum RM1,000 fine.
She was accused of committing the offence at Taman Subang Mas in Subang Jaya at about 5pm on April 12.
Under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020, those who violate the movement control order are liable to a fine up to RM1,000, or imprisonment up to six months, or both.
The Selangor Legal Aid Centre has reportedly taken up her case, which will be heard at the Shah Alam High Court tomorrow. She will be represented by the lawyer Rajpal Singh. - Mkini
