CORONAVIRUS | The number of green zones – mukim (localities) without Covid-19 infections – are growing and the government is still discussing ways to ease movement restriction in such areas.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the National Security Council (NSC) was in the "final stages" of drawing up the new rules.
Among others, he said the NSC was mulling whether to allow those in gated neighbourhoods, universities or high-rise residential buildings to enjoy some recreation time outdoors but still within the neighbourhood.
"This way you can bring the kids out. This was suggested by the NSC but we still need to discuss this with all the ministries.
"Next week, we will finalise the SOP that is being studied by the NSC and the Health Ministry," he said during his daily press briefing today.
The number of "green zones" have been steadily increasing while the number of "red zones" – denoting localities with more than 40 active Covid-19 cases detected – are decreasing.
To a question on whether the M-league football tournament could continue in an empty stadium, in view of South Korea and Germany allowing sporting events soon, Ismail replied in the negative.
He said even if the movement control order (MCO) period had ended, some rules preventing mass gatherings will still be in place.
He said if there are any formal applications by the Football Association of Malaysia and the Youth and Sports Ministry, the NSC will study it.
On the compliance rate of the current phase of the MCO, compared to the first two phases, Ismail said arrest numbers are still inconsistent.
He said that if the public wishes for the MCO to end earlier, they must observe the rules. - Mkini
