MOH encourages Malaysians to stay put in Singapore during MCO

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The Health Ministry is encouraging Malaysians in Singapore to stay put instead of trying to come back during the movement control order (MCO).
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this amid attempts by Malaysians to return home through the Johor causeway, with some making the journey by foot.
This comes as Singapore also went into a partial lockdown effective today in a bid to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
"If possible, for Malaysians working in Singapore, they should remain in Singapore for two more weeks.
"We are in talks with Singapore to see if employers there can keep them (Malaysians) for two weeks," Noor Hisham (photo) told a press conference in Putrajaya today.
He said for those who are insisting on returning home, the Health Ministry will take the necessary measures to screen them.
The government had on April 3 decided to waive 14-day quarantine measures for Malaysians returning from Singapore if they can get them themselves tested in Singapore and prove that they are Covid-19 negative.
However, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob later said the terms of return will be revised. The new terms have yet to be released.
Malaysians returning from all other countries are to be sent to quarantine centres where they will be isolated for 14 days.
In an effort to combat the coronavirus, the country has gone into a partial lockdown since March 18.
The MCO was supposed to end on March 31 but was extended until April 14.
Under the MCO, all non-essential businesses and services must close while people are only allowed to leave their homes for pressing reasons such as to restock food supply.
Foreigners are also not allowed into the country while Malaysians cannot leave. - Mkini
