More top departures from gov't agencies, this time Socso

Malaysiakini

Zakri Khir has resigned as chairperson of the Social Security Organisation (Socso) today, marking yet another in a string of recent exits from top posts at government agencies.
Quoting sources, Focus Malaysia reported that the technocrat is being replaced by a politician, Bersatu lawmaker Sabak Bernam MP Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh.
In a separate statement confirming his departure, Zakri (photo) said he tendered his resignation to Human Resources Minister M Saravanan today.
The resignation would take immediate effect.
Zakri, who is Allianz Malaysia chief executive officer, was appointed to the Socso role by the Pakatan Harapan government and took office on Oct 8, 2018.
The latter said he felt his services were no longer required with the change in government.
“I was appointed by the (then) Council of Eminent Persons to helm Socso as chairperson … due to my 30-year experience in the insurance industry. I looked at it as doing national service to the country.
“But with any new government, there will come changes and I am of the opinion that my services are no longer required.
“I have done my best and am grateful for all the support received and that I was given the privilege to serve the government for the last 16 months,” said Zakri.
Zakri had also been appointed as a Mara council member by the previous regime, while Maybank Asset Management Group chairperson Hasnita Hashim was appointed Mara chairperson.
However, Hasnita, Zakri and other Mara council members were dismissed last month by the new Perikatan Nasional government.
Also shown the door were fellow Mara council members Jamelah Jamaluddin, Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff, Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, Ameer Ali Mydin, Syed Tamim Ansari Syed Mohamed, and Ahmad Baslan Che Kassim.
Meanwhile, Bank Rakyat had on Saturday ended Noripah Kamso’s term as its chairperson.
It was also recently reported that Bakke Mohd Salleh, who is known to be among the few people within 1MDB who spoke up before it devolved into a global scandal, to resign as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) chairperson.
The report said the move, and several more attempts by the PN government to assert its own appointments are aimed at appeasing supporters. - Mkini
