Afif: Majority don't want to hear who are the saviours or traitors

Malaysiakini

Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin said the majority of Malaysians are not interesting to hear who are the "saviours" or "traitors" in the country's political scene.
Afif (photo), who was suspended from PKR for allegedly courting an MP to defect, said what people want to know is whether they can continue to earn a living and cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Majority of people do not want to hear who is the 'saviour' and who is the 'traitor'. The majority of people do not want to know who is more worthy to become prime minister. The majority do not care who got what position or who lost which position.
"I believe what the majority wants today is to know whether they will still earn an income to support themselves. Whether a businessperson can recoup his losses. Whether a year from now, the country will be free from the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I believe these are the fundamental questions in the minds of the majority of Malaysians," he said in a statement.
As such, Afif, who has set up the organisation "Pemuda Negara", called for national reconciliation.
"I call on all my political seniors, be it in Perikatan Nasional (PN) or Pakatan Harapan - now is the time for national reconciliation.
"The people's mandate now is not about Harapan or PN in power.
"The people's mandate is one that offers leadership direction for the country. They want a transparent and efficient system.
"The people want the country to recover and return to its position of security and comfort," he said.
Afif lamented that too many political battles are ongoing and urged politicians to check their priorities.
"I call on everyone to set aside egos and personal ambitions, to calm conflicts and prioritise the people and country's interest," he said.
Afif is aligned to former PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who led a group of MPs to defect to PN.
Together with Bersatu, they joined the opposition to form the PN government. - Mkini
