Ampang building site closed over illegal quarters for workers

Health authorities have reported 28 cases of Covid-19 infections among workers at the construction site in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
KUALA LUMPUR: A construction site at Jalan Ampang here is being closed for 30 days because a “kongsi house” (quarters) for workers was built without City Hall permission.
The order to close was issued today, Kuala Lumpur mayor Noor Hisham Dahlan said. The notice stated that no consent had been obtained from DBKL for the workers’ quarters to be built at the sub basement area.
The site is the location of a cluster of 28 cases of Covid-19 infections, all of them foreign workers.
The health ministry has said it is investigating the source of Covid-19 infections there and did not rule out possibilities that this cluster could be related to other clusters.
Federal Territories minister Annuar Musa, who has said that some workers quarters are dirty, urged contractors and developers to follow the health guidelines and not to compromise with the workers’ health.
He also said Covid-19 cases were detected at Pavilion Embassy construction site in Jalan Ampang. - FMT
