CORONAVIRUS | The National Audit Department (NAD) has confirmed the authenticity of the leaked memo by auditor-general Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid informing his deputies that he has tested positive for Covid-19.
“NAD confirms the viral memo was issued by the auditor-general of Malaysia.
“It was meant to be an internal memo and not to be shared with external parties.
“The aim of the memo is to ensure smooth administration of NAD in the absence of the auditor-general,” the department said in a statement today.
The memo went viral on social media yesterday after it was reported that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is going under a 14-day self-quarantine after a government official present at his post-cabinet meeting on Wednesday tested positive for Covid-19.
In the memo, Nik Azman had indicated he will be quarantined in the hospital.
To ensure the NAD continues to run smoothly, he said the deputy auditor-general (performance) would take over his duties in the meantime.
“The reason why Covid-19 was mentioned in the memo was to indicate the necessary and prompt actions, as well as measures, be taken to curb the possibility of the spread of Covid-19 among NAD officers and staff members,” he said.
The department said all close contacts had been notified yesterday for appropriate actions while the affected building, Block F2 of Complex F in Precinct 1, Putrajaya had been sanitised and disinfected yesterday as well. - Mkini
