Authorities enter Menara City One

Malaysiakini

Authorities, including from the Immigration Department, were today seen heading into Menara City One condominium in Kuala Lumpur, which has been under the enhanced movement control order (MCO) since March 30.
The authorities were dressed in personal protective equipment (PPE) and entered the building at around 10.30am, as reported by The Star.
Later, around noon, several people believed to be undocumented migrants were seen sitting in a corner of the building.
Around the same time, police and Immigration trucks which had been parked at Jalan Munshi Abdullah drove into the premises.
A resident later told Malaysiakini that the authorities did not inform them of the purpose of the visit.
However, he added that the authorities began to ask for the nationalities and passports of the residents.
“(They) suddenly turned up in the morning… I assume they were rounding up undocumented workers because they were asking for nationalities and passports.
“I could see from the balcony a few trucks with people being taken away,” said the resident, who declined to be named.
Another resident also told Malaysiakini that the authorities were checking for undocumented migrants.
“They (the authorities) did door-to-door checks for undocumented migrants.
“(It took) about three hours. (I am) not sure how many were arrested,” said the resident, who also declined to be named.
The authorities have yet to release a statement on what happened at Menara City One today. - Mkini
