BN, GPS, Bersatu, PAS, and two Sabah-based parties expressed their support for the formation of political coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN).
In a joint statement, their leaders outlined the contents of PN's memorandum of understanding on the foundation of their cooperation.
The statement was signed by Prime Minister and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, GPS chairperson Abang Johari Openg, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Maximus Johnity Ongkili and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Jeffrey Kitingan.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Umno supreme council had rejected a proposal to formally join PN to safeguard the position and interest of the party.
GPS, which reportedly stressed that it would not join PN, will be part of the coalition now.
The memorandum stated that PN would ensure the federal and state governments be administrated in a good way, inclusive and in par with international standards.
This will be done for the welfare and interest of the people, and for the harmony and prosperity of the country.
It said PN parties will also enhance the spirit of sharing and togetherness between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia in order to achieve the goal of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The parties have agreed to strengthen PN via consultation and discussion and respect all races, religions and cultures for the sake of the country.
PN had ousted the Pakatan Harapan government in Putrajaya and took over the control of Johor, Perak, Malacca and Kedah states. - Mkini
