Centralised test data shows 424k tested for Covid-19

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | The centralisation of Covid-19 testing data has shown that the total number of individuals in the country tested as of today was 424,306, up from 297,342 announced by the Health Ministry yesterday.
According to Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the centralisation of data was the result of the Sistem Informasi Makmal Kesihatan Awam (Simka) developed by the Makmal Kesihatan Awam Kebangsaan (MKAK) which was implemented in April.
"This is an achievement [...] previously, data from labs was reported manually," he said during his daily press briefing in Putrajaya today.
Prior to Simka, test facilities run by universities, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, military hospitals and private labs were not reporting test data in a uniform way.
Given that the total number of Covid-19 cases was currently 6,855, it meant that the rate of positive cases was 1.62 percent.
It also meant that for every 1,000 residents in Malaysia, 13 had been tested.
This would put Malaysia in second place in the Asean region in terms of tests-per-thousand.
"The harmonisation of data could not have been implemented if not for the cooperation between various parties including seven private labs.
"The Health Ministry hopes the cooperation from (all the) labs will continue," he said.
Meanwhile, Noor Hisham reminded Malaysians to avoid the "3Cs" - crowds, confined spaces and close conversations.
He also urged Malaysians to practice the "3Ws" - washing of hands, wearing of masks and heeding warnings from the health authorities.
He also reminded Malaysians to follow all instructions from the authorities, protect the elderly and the frail as well as practice social distancing. - Mkini
