Covid-19 patient's mom: Daughter came home to give birth, not celebrate Raya

Malaysiakini
CORONAVIRUS | The mother of a pregnant woman who was diagnosed with Covid-19 in Kelantan after travelling from a coronavirus red zone in Kuala Lumpur has called for a halt on accusations that her daughter had acted irresponsibly.
Norazlina Abdul Rahim, 50, said her daughter, who is 35 weeks pregnant, decided to return to her hometown in Kuala Krai to give birth and not for the sake of celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“Please, don’t criticise my daughter without checking (the facts). She returned to her kampung to deliver, not to celebrate Aidilfitri.
“It would have been hard for her to deliver in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur as her husband is working and they have a three-year-old child,” she said when contacted today.
The detection of the Covid-19 case in Kelantan, which was previously a green zone, was reported yesterday. Red zone classification is accorded to areas with 40 or more positive cases while green zones are areas deemed Covid-19 free.
According to the Health Ministry, the 32-year-old woman has been isolated and is being treated.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said the woman had obtained police permission to travel interstate to Kelantan for medical reasons.
However, the senior minister claimed that before heading to her family home, she first met with several people including relatives and “hugged" them.
Meanwhile, Norazlina also pointed out that her daughter had a permission letter to travel interstate and is expected to give birth on June 19.
“Since the news of my daughter went viral (on social media), many people began criticising her action in returning to her hometown without knowing she had a valid reason to do so.
“At first, she was stressed to the point she deactivated her Facebook account. Now, her situation had stabilised after my husband and I managed to convince her to remain calm and to not take notice of the criticisms.
“I advise my child to accept this matter with an open heart. Thank god she is healthy and is being treated at the hospital,” she said.
Kelantan Health Department Director Dr Zaini Hussin said today the woman is in stable condition.
