CORONAVIRUS | The number of Covid-19 red zones increased to 11 yesterday, up from 10 a day before, driven by a spike in new cases in Rembau.
This is after Rembau saw its active Covid-19 cases jump from seven to 59, causing the district to slip from a yellow zone to a red zone, according to Health Ministry data.
A yellow zone refers to a district that has one to 40 active Covid-19 cases while a red zone means the area has more than 40 cases.
Districts that are free of active Covid-19 cases are assigned as green zones.
Yesterday, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed a Covid-19 outbreak had taken place at a factory in Pedas, Rembau involving foreign workers.
He said that the index patient was a factory staff who developed symptoms on April 5 but was only confirmed as a Covid-19 case on April 12.
A total of 786 factory staff and friends of the index patient were tested.
The ten other red zones are Ibu Kota (144), Batu (101), Kampung Baru (67) and Sri Petaling (45) in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching (100) and Kota Samarahan (43) in Sarawak, Gombak (80), Hulu Langat (55) and Petaling (53) in Selangor as well as Kluang (49) in Johor.
Meanwhile, the number of yellow zones stood at 77 while green zones were 113.
