Ex-PKR man replaces Hans Isaac as Finas chair

Malaysiakini

Former PKR Bera chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid has been appointed as the new National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chairperson, replacing actor and film producer Hans Isaac.
The Communication and Multimedia Ministry in a statement also announced Norman Abdul Halim of KRU Studios as the new deputy chairperson, replacing Affendy Ali Dally, a Media Prima executive.
"Zakaria is a businessperson and community activist. He has a degree in urban planning from California State University, US.
"Norman has wide experience in the media and entertainment industry at both the domestic and international level," said the ministry.
Finas is a government agency aimed at facilitating the development of the local film industry.
Norman has a long track record in the industry but Zakaria's appointment under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government follows a string of politicians replacing industry experts.
Zakaria was previously sacked from PKR for allegedly dangling projects from the Housing and Local Development Ministry and the Works Ministry to lobby for votes in the 2018 PKR election.
Hans Isaac
Zakaria had denied wrongdoing. He was formerly the political secretary to the then works minister Baru Bian under the previous Pakatan Harapan government.
He is aligned to the faction led by former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali that had broken away from Harapan to side with PN.
Zakaria had on May 16 posted on Facebook that he had visited Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah at his office in Putrajaya.
Saifuddin was among the 10 MPs from PKR that defected to PN.
While they have sided with Bersatu under PN, they have yet to officially join Bersatu.
Speculation is rife that the group is planning to start a new party under PN. - Mkini
