Amid a background of political upheavals, an aide to Anwar Ibrahim has described as "fake" a purported letter of undertaking that pledged the PKR president's support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
A copy of the purported letter was shared in the PKR official WhatsApp group by Anwar's press-secretary Tunku Nashrul Tunku Ubaidah.
"Responding to media questions on this matter (letter), I confirm that it is fake," he said in a brief message.
The fake letter dated May 16 stated Anwar's purported declaration that he was not forced, threatened or bribed into supporting Muhyiddin as prime minister.
It further stated his pledge to oppose any attempts to move a vote of no confidence against Muhyiddin, either in the Dewan Rakyat or through other means outside of Parliament.
The Dewan Rakyat proceedings today will be held amid intense speculations over an initial move led by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad to push for a no-confidence motion against Muhyiddin.
What was initially scheduled to be a one-day sitting today has been further cut short to a single agenda - the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s opening address.
This means that there is no room for any motions either by Muhyiddin's government or the opposition.
Mahathir had previously filed a no-confidence motion against Muhyiddin which was accepted by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof but de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan had stressed that only government matters would be prioritised during the one-day sitting. - Mkini
