For selling chicken at 20 sen a kg more, trader fined RM5,000

Two shopkeepers in Perak have been slapped with compound fines for flouting price controls.
IPOH: A mini-market trader in Little India here became the first trader in the state to be issued a compound of RM5,000 for selling standard chicken above the stipulated ceiling price.
V. Ravichandran, Perak chief enforcement officer of the domestic trade ministry, said the shopkeeper was found selling standard chicken at RM7.70 per kilogramme instead of fixed price of RM7.50 per kg.
Another retailer in Chemor was issued a compound notice of RM2,500 for selling red chillies at RM18 per kilogramme, which was above the ceiling price of RM13 per kg.
Prices of essential goods are fixed under the price control scheme for festive seasons under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

Ravichandran said inspections were carried out by three teams on premises around Ipoh from 8.30am to 2pm. - FMT
